Latinate terminology in Modern Greek: An “intruder” or an “asset”?

Abstract This article discusses Latinate Modern Greek (MG) terminology in the light of language planning, contact, transliteration, registers, and speakers’ attitudes. It starts by describing sociolinguistic aspects MG with respect to borrowing proceeds case studies terms their Greek-based synonyms from various science, arts, social, technical fields. Focusing on phonological, morphological, semantic, terminological issues such as semantic intra- inter-linguistic transparency consistency long-standing cultural ties between Greece West, an updated approach form utility is attempted, aiming at influencing eventual planning Greek-speaking areas.
